Introduction to the position
My client, a Private Equity-backed, fast-growing business based in Berlin, is looking to recruit a Team Lead for their Accounting team. The company is undergoing rapid growth and implemented at new ERP, Dynamics Business Central, to support its expansion.
This is a key leadership position where you will be responsible for overseeing and improving accounting processes, managing a dynamic team, and driving efficiency in both daily operations and monthly closings.
The company is focused on maintaining high standards in financial reporting, and the role is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact within a fast-paced, evolving environment. The position is based in Berlin.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the accounting team, ensuring efficient operations and adherence to financial reporting standards.
- Oversee daily accounting tasks including bookkeeping, monthly closings, and quarterly statements for 16 companies.
- Ensure compliance with German GAAP (HGB) and other relevant financial regulations.
- Work closely with the controlling team to address accounting-related queries and support reporting processes.
- Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes, implementing automation and optimizing workflow efficiency.
- Manage the onboarding of new team members and provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff.
- Collaborate with IT and other departments to identify areas where system improvements or IT support are required.
- Ensure strong stakeholder management and effective communication with senior leadership and other teams across the organization.
- Handle ad hoc projects and process improvements, adapting to the company’s rapid growth and evolving needs.
- Support the team during absences and special tasks, ensuring smooth operations at all times.
Desired Qualifications
- Proven leadership experience in an accounting or finance team, ideally in a fast-growing or dynamic environment.
- Strong knowledge of German accounting standards (HGB) and experience in bookkeeping, monthly closings, and financial reporting.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems, preferably Dynamics Business Central, or similar financial systems.
- Knowledge of German tax regulations, including VAT, is required.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage both internal and external relationships effectively.
- Strong organizational and process optimization skills with a focus on automation where possible.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changes and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Fluent in German, both written and spoken; English proficiency is a plus.
- Experience in managing cross-functional teams and working with senior leadership.
