Leaving school for University I was excited (mixed with nerves of course) and ready to meet new friends, live somewhere new, and get a degree, probably in that order because I didn’t know what I wanted to do when I grew up!
I went through the motions and chose a ‘general’ business degree with the hope that I’d just figure it out, but it didn’t really turn out that way, apart from setting my sights on London to soak up the fun of the big city. I landed a job in market research thinking this was going to be my career and it was fun, but I just didn’t get that feeling it was really what I wanted to do.
Fast forward a few years a chance opportunity to leave London saw me and my boyfriend (now husband) move to a little market town in Leicestershire called Market Harborough.
Little did I realise this move would see me join a great company and build the successful career I was always striving for. Whilst it may have taken me a few years post studies to find my true career it did happen and I just needed patience, belief in myself and the right company!! Ironically this advise forms a big part of my role as a recruiter and I still get a huge amount satisfaction helping candidates find their next role/career.
On this International Women’s Day, I share my story to all those who may have moments of self-doubt and uncertainty, I urge you to keep pushing forward, have faith in yourself, and trust that good things will come. My story may be just one of many, but I hope it resonates with those who need a little reminder to never give up on your aspirations.
Happy International Women’s Day — may we all continue to support and uplift each other.
